No Desire

Once there was a man who had desires larger than life. He tried everything to earn money and fulfill his desires but he didn’t succeed. One day, he attended a satsang and decided to follow the path of a saint. When he became saint, his longing for things weren’t there anymore. He was mentally satisfied and happy with practices of yoga and meditation..
Once he sat for a long time and dedicated a prayer to God. God was pleased by his dedication and came to him and asked him to demand anything he wanted from Him.
The saint replied, “When I used to wish for things, You never gave me... and now when I don’t wish for anything anymore, You want me to ask You for anything I want. Now, I don’t want anything.”
God said, “You have conquered your senses of desire and that's what pleased Me. Your desires were the only barrier between you and Me. Now the obstacle of desires is no more and your heart is pure. So, I want to give you something.”
The saint thought for while and said, “I want power to heal sick people by just a single touch and for dry trees to come back to life with my touch.”
God agreed and granted his wish.
The saint stopped for a second and said, “I want to make a little change in my wish. I want that I would be able to heal sick people and dry trees not by my touch but by the presence of only my shadow.
God inquired, “Is there any doubt about healing with touch?”
The saint replied, “No God... but I don’t want people to know that they can benefit from my touch. Because once a person feel that he has power, he can easily get back into this life circle and desires. Then this power you gave me will do more evil to me than good. I just want to help people in silence.”

Moral:

Too much desire is the cause of mental unhappiness. We should help others without thinking that we are doing a favour for them.

O LORD, TAKE MY LOVE

O Lord, take my love, and let it flow in fullness of devotion to Thee;
O Lord, take my hands, and let them work incessantly for Thee;
O Lord, take my soul, and let it be merged in One with Thee;
O Lord, take my mind and thoughts, and let them be in tune with Thee;
O Lord, take my everything, and let me be an instrument to work for Thee.
