To offer hope to someone in darkness
is a deed both noble and worthy.
But what words of hope could I offer,
when all my own unworthiness
stands in front of my face?
And how can I speak of finding a foothold
when I am still walking on my knees?
O Soul, did not that wise man say:
’speak your truth quietly and clearly’?
A word of truth is still a word of truth,
regardless of the tongue that pours it forth.
Here, O Soul, lies the very heart of the matter:
You are merely a tool in the Beloved’s hand,
and all that you possess was given to you in trust.
Thus, words of hope come from the Beloved’s own mouth,
as He reaches out to those in dire need.
Become a channel then, my friend,
and comfort those in need,
that in your turn,
you too might hear the voice of God in your heart’s ear,
and find your own need assuaged.
