So much truth are contained in these words... They brought me back to the days before I knew Swami, between year 2000 - 2003.
During those years, I was a young wife and mother to three very young children. I was house-bound because I did not have extended family members or relatives living nearby to help me. Neither did I have time for friends as it was not my habit to chit-chat with neighbours. Thus, my life at the time was completely centred on my family alone.
I used to take my children to a nearby park every evening and I would sit on a swing or a bench as I watched them play together. There were other mothers there too but I did not like to get involved in gossips, so I was usually alone. It was during those quiet moments that I would talk to God.
One evening, I told Him that I felt as if Adeline was no more. Everywhere I went, people acknowledged me as 'Mrs T....', my husband called me 'Dear' and my babies called me 'Mom'. The woman 'Adeline' whom I used to know seemed to have disappeared. Even though I was surrounded by people whom I loved dearly, my heart felt so utterly empty. So, I asked God, "Is this the only purpose of my life?" I could not believe that I was born only to be a wife and mother. Surely, there was more to life than just this....
I had searched for God all my life but it was during those three years that I had pined so deeply for Him. Every evening, I would ask Him, "Where are you? Where are you? Where are you????"
Then, one day... God came to me. There was a Sai centre just across the street from where I lived. All those years that I had walked past the Sai centre to buy provisions for my family, I did not even know that Sathya Sai Baba was God incarnated on earth.
One of our friends had invited my husband and I to attend a festival bhajan. We went to join them but were not familiar with the proceedings, so I did not feel comfortable at first. It was only after we went many times that I slowly began to participate in singing bhajans, chant prayers, and do service activities.
From that year 2003 until now 2012, it has been almost ten years. So much has happened... Swami has kept His promise to me as in the poem above. He has brought me to His Divine Lotus Feet in year 2010. He has given me a new birth, a new identity... 'Adeline' is now a spiritual aspirant and I am on my journey to be Him! How meaningful and beautiful life has become today!
